Or is it breaking through the trees? The colors are reminiscent of the forest, but also could easily be interpreted as reflections of fall colors in the water. My paintings have me chasing the light

the way light accumulates after a long stretch of dark

That this painting had taken me somewhere - down into the quiet

Kept asking what it should be called

this series was inspired by my teeny

Rather than depicting a flower directly

takes up every available space

I sat with it for a couple of months

I kept coming back to it

but the only way I'll be sure is to continue painting more

The elongated vertical format draws the eye upward and downward

building something that is less about botanical accuracy and more about the feeling of a thing in full bloom
