Whilst the film was about the destruction of lives in Cambodia

This work was inspired by a painting trip to Tasmania and the “killing fields” in the North

If you’ve ever stood in an expanse of logged forest

but set to work to make it a forest

I was studying another kind of destruction

The painting evokes the stillness of a hidden riverbank

This is a study I painted in my studio looking through the window to the Plane trees outside - the subject and muse for many of my paintings

you can’t help but be moved by the destruction and the waste

I'm sure this presents as a curious title for a painting

reflecting the light on the still surface

After the studies

but it refers to the journey the work has had in the making
