These Sun Earrings have been hand-carved by Haida artist Amy Edgars

It has been carved in argillite and features 12 inlays of mastodon ivory and 14 inlays of abalone shell

created the twined cedar bark to adorn the rim

and is adorned with hair

it primarily consisted of late-night raids in which the attackers would paddle their canoes close to the village and sneak into the big houses while everyone slept

In stories and ceremonies

The jaw of the mask is articulated and opens and closes by pulling the dangling abalone below

Dzunuk'wa comes into the big house as a lumbering shaggy creature with half-closed eyes She may appear in both the Tła’sala (Peace Dance) or the Tseka (Red Cedar Bark) ceremonies

The salmon coming out of the back ties the story together and is typical for Darrell's very detail oriented work
